Last month I got an email from the ADC asking if I would like to volunteer my Saturday to graffiti their Men’s restroom. I would get paid, I’d be working with three strangers, and it would eat half of my weekend. I didn’t hesitate. I said “yes”. Mostly because I have a terrible habit of doing the opposite of what I should do.
I met up with Elle Kim, Lotta Niemann, and Stefani Weigler and it was remarkable how easily we got along! Collaboration can be a fickle beast and majority rule decisions are a bitch when there are only three people. In our case, we were in agreement on all the important parts- materials, concept, and execution.
As easy as it was for us to work together like any good pitch it required some convincing. ”Hey guys. Design is a sausage fest so we want to draw dick jokes on your bathroom walls. Don’t worry, we’ll keep it classy.” To the ADC’s credit they let us get away with our pitch as long as it was PG-13
The painting and composing took 10 hours and it couldn’t have been done without the world’s best intern, Leslie V. Robertson.
