Day Four

| March 3rd, 2011

Day four at Businessweek. Including orientation. The coffee is free. All my emails are monitored (I can’t type “fuck” in an email but “cunty” is ok). I get two desktop monitors including a bloomberg terminal. My thoughts are being recorded. The art department is experimental and collaborative. Most of your twitpics are blocked. I have my very own desk with a name plate.

The first issue I’ve worked on with @BizWeekDesign is OUT. The cover is wonderfully literal and the opening spread has a pirate on it. To visualize how far technology has come in terms of memory capacity we diagramed the bits from a xeabyte to 35 zerabytes (the blue squares represent the dramatic increases leaving the third page in the layout nearly covered in blue). It ends with Cindy’s timeline of key players.

There are A LOT of more interesting things to say and show for the issue but I am increasingly frustrated by the ways to display it online. My blog with it’s paltry 500px wide art column is pathetic but that’s a different blog post entirely. I highly recommend subscribing to businessweek if not to read than “for the pictures”.
